COURSE DESCRIPTION AND HISTORY

T
he Recording Courses were started by Vincent Testa, musician and producer, in the early 70s, who saw the need for an affordable way for musicians to be educated in the basics of studio techniques without going through extensive electronics and/or college training. The very first course was given at
Trod Nossel Recording Studios.

The course is intended for musicians / home recordists who wish to gain an understanding of multitrack recording in its most raw and basic form, and the building blocks from which today's state of the art digital studios and setups were born. With the basic knowledge in place, a better understanding to exploit all technological possibilities in the future will be more readily received and understood, eliminating the need for a long learning curve so the engineer can get right into the creative process. Audiophiles can gain greater appreciation and enjoyment of their recordings. Those doing live sound work can use much of the data presented (even though the course is not specifically aimed at sound reinforcement). Those interested in recording as a career can get a good coverage of the basics. Experienced producers and sound mixers have also found this course extremely beneficial.

This course has turned out thousands of students over the years that now actively work in the field; from opening their own home or professional studio, engineering, freelancing, to doing live sound, music production and performing.  Nothing prepares you better for your career path than hands on training in a real studio that has specialized in music production and the audio arts for almost 5 decades.

Students participate by setting up microphones operating the console during the sessions, tracking, overdubs and mixing. THIS IS A HANDS-ON COURSE. There is a minimum of 18 hours of theory and 18 hours of recording sessions in Modern Recording Techniques I. An advanced course, MRT II is available in which there are approximately 30 hours of recording sessions over an 8-10 week period, depending on the instructor's schedule.
